Internal Audits

Internal audits

ISM Code due to the number of major marine casualties in the 80s, the ISM Code recognized that systematic, organized and well documented shipping practices from participating shore-based and ships management are essential for the safe operation of ships and the environment.

Ship management must structure a Safety Management System (SMS) that meets the ISM Code and it should be well documented, implemented and maintained.

Internal Audits should be conducted in order to verify that the SMS is working effectively. Most Companies opt to audit each office or vessel annually.

  • At CIBS, all our personnel received the appropriate trainings in helping you prepare all the necessary documents to structure a proper SMS that meets the ISM Code and your company profile.
  • At CIBS we can offer you an internal audit on your behalf, for the ISM, ISPS, ISO 9001, ISO 18000 and ISO 14001.
  • We will complete the necessary checklists and non-conformity and forward it to you.
  • We can act as your DPA and save money for travel expenses and time.
  • Vessel Registration

Every merchant ship must be registered to a particular country. The country to which a ship is registered is called its “flag state.” A ship is bound by the laws of its flag state.

    Green Marine

    Green marine

Green Marine Green Marine is an environmental certification program for the North American marine industry.

It is a voluntary, transparent and inclusive initiative that addresses key environmental issues. Participants are ship owners, ports, terminals, Seaway corporations and shipyards. The cornerstone of the Green Marine initiative is it’s far-reaching environmental program, which makes it possible for any marine company operating in Canada or the U.S. to reduce its environmental footprint by undertaking concrete and measurable actions.

To receive their certification, participants must benchmark their annual environmental performance through the program’s exhaustive self-evaluation guides, have their results verified by an accredited external verifier and agree to publication of their individual results.

Our verifiers have received training to be able to understand Green Marine’s evaluation, verification and certification process and proceed to the verification of participant companies according to Green Marine’s standard.

At CIBS, our verifiers are in the east and west coast to reduce any transportation fees.

    ISO

    ISO

ISO 9001 standard was the first of all the Management System Standards to be written in the late 70’s. Several revisions took place. ISO 9001:2008 is far easier to comply with, relying much less on paperwork and documentation.

A new version of ISO 9001 was released in September 2015. It is supposed to have even less dependence on documented processes, the importance now resting on assessment of the risks and dangers to the business of poorly managed or inconsistent processes.

To become approved and certified ISO 9001, this is dependent on what you do and how you do it! Nevertheless, it’s often possible  produce an adapted Quality Management System, written around your organization's activities, audit the implementation to ensure compliance, and have it certified by an accredited body.

At CIBS we will work with you through certification and accreditation process. We are pleased to offer you our expertise in consultation.

    C-TPAT

    C-TPAT

The U.S. Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C‐TPAT) seeks to safeguard the world’s vibrant trade industry from terrorists, maintaining the economic health of the U.S. and its neighbors. The partnership develops and adopts measures that add security but do not have a chilling effect on trade, a difficult balancing act.

When companies join the anti‐terror partnership, companies sign an agreement to work with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to protect the supply chain, identify security gaps, and implement specific security measures and best practices. Additionally, partners provide CBP with a security profile outlining the specific security measures the company has in place.

C‐TPAT members are considered low‐risk and are therefore less likely to be examined.

At CIBS we can help you implement the C-TPAT System and get you approved.

    2nd Party Audits

    2nd Party Audits

An Audit is used to evaluate how well audit criteria are being met. Audits
must be objective, impartial, and independent, and the audit
process must be both systematic and documented.

The first party audits is used by the organization to audit themselves. First
party audits are used to confirm or improve the effectiveness
of management systems.

Second party audits are external audits. They’re usually
done by customers or by others such as CIBS on their behalf.

Third party audits are external audits as well. However,
they’re performed by independent organizations such
as registrars (certification bodies) or regulators.

At CIBS we can perform internal ISO 9001 audits and audit of Marine Schools on behalf of Transport Canada.
